IQ-X headlight

Lumotec IQ-X E - 150 lux

The Lumotec IQ-X E has 150 lux output. Made specifically for "E Bikes", it is powered by the E Bike's on board power supply, and is switched on or off by the E Bike's control panel. The on board power supply voltage can be anything from 6 volts to 60 volts. The headlight connection must provide a minimum of 7.5 watts.

The IQ-X E has the same shaped beam as the dynamo powered IQ-X. It's just half again brighter.

The IQ-X E does not have connectors for a taillight. The taillight will have to be wired directly to the e bike's controller, along with the IQ-X. And the taillight you choose must be able to handle the voltage provided by the e bike for lights.

Busch & Müller IQ-X E headlight, Part Number B&M164R60TS7-01, Price: $ 216.00

See below for suitable taillights.

IQ-XS E 6-42 volts

This is the baby brother of the IQ-X. It has a beautiful black anodized aluminum housing. At 70b lux it's bright enough for most cyclists in most conditions. The beam illuminates the road well both at a distance and close-up, so you won't miss the pothole that wasn't there yesterday. The IQ-XS automatically changes from a daytime beam to nighttime beam depending on ambiant light levels. So you always have the optimal headlight beam.

The IQ-XS E has no switch. Nor does it have connections for a taillight. Your E Bike needs to have an On-Off switch for lights as well as connections for headlight and taillight.

Busch & Muller IQ-XS E headlight, Part # B&M167R42TS-01, Price: $ 124.00

CYO

Lumotec IQ Premium Cyo E 6 to 42 volt

The Lumotec IQ Premium Cyo E 6v to 42v has 80 lux output; bright enough for most any cyclist. Made specifically for "E Bikes", it is powered by the E Bike's on board power supply. The on board power supply voltage can be anything from 6 volts to 42 volts. The IQ Premium Cyo E then controls and provides power to a taillight. See below for suitable taillights.

graphic

The IQ Premium Cyo E can be mounted at the handlebar using a variety of mounts we stock. The IQ Premium Cyo E comes with a fork crown mount suitable for caliper brakes, disc brakes and most V brakes. Cantilever mount sold separately.

We have found some E bikes claiming a 6 volt output for lights that don't actually deliver a full 6 volts. One produces 5.8 volts for lights. The Cyo E 6 to 42 volt version really does need at least 6 volts or it will not be very bright. Test your E bike's headlight output with a volt meter before ordering this headlight. If it's below 6 volts, even slightly, scroll down this page just a bit for the 6 volt only version, which is much more forgiving.

Since the Lumotec IQ Premium Cyo E uses an LED for its light output, there is no bulb to burn out, or replace.

We have these in retail "hang tag" packaging complete with a taillight wire and bolt-on front reflector.

Lumotec IQ2 Eyc E 6 volt
headlight

Designed for 6 volt systems only. The Eyc E is perfect for the new Bosch system. The Eyc E is very small but produces a beautiful beam on the road. We have these at a low price without retail packaging. The photo above shows the version for dynamo power. But other than the text on the side, the light looks identical.

This version is without a switch or taillight connections, as the Bosch system has it's own switch and connections to a taillight.

Description Notes Part Number Price
Lumotec IQ2 Eyc E for Bosch or StePS Suitable for E bikes with 6 volts ± 0.5 volts DC and 650mA to the headlight connections. Ideal for Bosch and Shimano STePS. B&M160/6-04991 $ 70.00
Lumotec IQ2 Eyc E T Senso, 6 to 42 volt
headlight

Looks the same as the 6 volt only version, but is compatible with e bikes having 6 volt through 42 volt outputs for lights, and has daytime running lights. The Senso function automatically switches the beam between a daytime beam and nighttime beam, so you always have the optimal headlight beam.

Taillight output connections are 6 volt, regardless of the input voltage, 6 through 42 volts, so you can use less expensive taillights rated 6 volts.

We have two versions of this headlight. The only difference is the bolt which attaches the headlight to its mount. The more expensive version uses a security head bolt instead of the usual allen head bolt.

If your e bike has a true 6 volt output, like Bosch or STePS.you really don't need this version.

Lumotec Lyt "E" for Bosch or Shimano STePS 6 voltsystems
headlight

Busch & Müller also makes an inexpensive headlight for the urban commuter. Based on the dynamo powered Lumotec Lyt it produces 25 lux. I have these packed for E bike manufacturers, so no instructions or wiring are included. But installation couldn't be simpler. Even we can explain it to you in a few seconds. ;-)

The connections for input from the E-bike's on board power supply are the regular 2.8mm male metric spade connectors. We sell wiring to connect to the bike's on board power supply. On board power supply input wiring can have 2.8mm female connectors at both ends or at just the headlight end. There are no taillight connectors on this headlight. Your taillight would be wired to the bike's on board power supply.

The photo above shows a different mount than the one included, but it functions the same.

E-bike Taillights for Rack Mounting
Toplight Line (5 to 15 volt)
taillight

Toplight Line for 6 volt E Bikes. The photo is of the dynamo powered Toplight Line Plus, which has a standlight. There's no need for a standlight with an E Bike, so we stock the less expensive Toplight Line, without the standlight, for use with 6 volt E Bikes, or with Busch & Müller e-bike headlights having taillight connections. So the light you receive will say simply Toplight Line.

Toplight Line E (6 through 60 volt)
taillight

Toplight Line E for E Bikes with voltages between 6 and 60 volts. The photo is of the dynamo powered Toplight Line Plus, which has a standlight. There's no need for a standlight with an E Bike. This more expensive version of the Toplight Line, labeled "Toplight Line E" is compatible with E Bikes using voltages from 6 volts through 60 volts. The light you receive will say "Toplight Line E" on the top.

Keep in mind that if your Busch & Müller e-bike headlight has taillight connections, those connections are at 6 volts, even if your e-bike's connection to the headlight is at a higher voltage. If that's the case, while the Line E will work, the less expensive Toplight Line shown above will work just as well.

Mounting Headlights

All Busch & Müller headlights are designed to be used in all weather. Your bike can sit out all day in the rain, and it can be raining hard while you ride, but it won't effect the proper functioning of the headlight, provided that the headlight is not being sprayed with water.

"Say uh wuh huh?" you ask?

I'll explain.

For example, if you mount the headlight at the crown of the fork using a Busch & Müller mount, the light will be high enough above the front tire that water won't spray up from the tire and hit the light. And of course any suitable commuting or brevet bike will have fenders. But some bikes are now being made by custom frame builders with special front racks which have headlight mounts towards the front of the rack. In some cases, the headlight is right in the path of water being sprayed towards the front. Busch & Müller dynamo and E bike headlights all have openings at the bottom to allow any water that gets inside to drain out. But water spraying off a tire can enter via those openings. So you must position the light where it won't be subjected to this type of spray. If you must position the light well forward of the front tire you must also place a barrier of some sort to deflect water away from the headlight.

If you can't mount the headlight at the fork crown because you have a bag in the way, you can often mount the headlight at the side of the fork, just below the tire. Along the fork blade, the headlight will only get water from above, which won't cause any trouble. However, newer lights have very wide beams, and mounting beside the fork can shine a lot of light onto the tire, which creates a large shadow. I don't recommend this with newer LED headlights. See my mounting page for more info.
