Brakes & Parts I sell brakes from Paul Components, Campagnolo, Shimano, Cane Creek, Avid and Dia Compe. I stock caliper brakes, cantilever brakes, and V brakes, also called sidepull cantilevers. Campagnolo These are the finest road brakes ever made, in my opinion. And they look good too! Suitable for use with tires up to 700x28. Also suitable for framing. ;-) These are not to be used with very narrow rims, such as Mavic Open Pro clinchers. The Delta brake was designed for relatively wide rims, at least 20mm. Most tubular rims are wide enough, the some clinchers such as Mavic MA-3, and the old Campagnolo XL rims. If the brake is used with a rim that is too narrow, it's possible to lock up your wheel during hard braking.
Campagnolo Record Delta - All gone! Boo Hoo! Nuovo Record hoods. These are original equipment hoods made by Campagnolo. They have the shield on both sides. They are real gum rubber hoods. The fit Nuovo Record and Super Record levers. You get two hoods, as in a hood for the right lever, and a hood for the left lever. Yes, I know the picture only shows one hood. Photons are expensive. You decide which lever to put which hood on. ;-) NR hoods, (pair): All gone. But we often have some nice replacements made by Euro Asia which fit well and look good. Call for availability and pricing. Paul Components Paul makes two cantilever brakes, and a sidepull cantilever or V brake. For use with traditional road bike levers such as Dia Compe BRS 500, Campagnolo Ergo, or Shimano STI, the Neo Retro brake works best, because very little cable travel is required to activate the brake. Very good stopping power, but perhaps not ideal for small hands since they require a strong grip. Available in silver as shown, or black.
Paul Neo Retro - $ per brake. Your choice of Kool Stop Black, Salmon or Dual Compound pads. For use with traditional mountain bike brake levers, or with Dia Compe 287 levers, the Touring cantilever works best. More cable travel is required for the same amount of pad movement than with the Neo Retro. Higher stopping power than the Neo Retro, these are a particularly good option if you're using standard road levers like STI and have small hands, or just want the most stopping power possible. Available in silver as shown, or black. Paul Touring - $ per brake. Your choice of Kool Stop Black, Salmon or Dual Compound pads. For use with either V brake mountain bike lvers, or with Dia compe 287V levers for road bikes, the Motolite Z works best. These require the high amount of cable travel in a V brake lever. I stock these in black. Silver is available by special order. Paul Motolite Z - $ per brake.
Shimano Shimano brakes are available here in the store, or as components of complete bikes. Shimano Ultegra caliper set, 39mm to 49mm reach for current road racing frames. Shimano Ultegra calipers - Shimano R600 calipers, (Same as Ultegra but longer reach) - Shimano makes their dual pivot calipers in the traditional standard reach. It's now called "Long Reach" 47mm to 57mm. If you have an older frame from the 1970s or early 1980s, designed for use with caliper brakes, it may not work with most caliper brakes made today. Shimano RX100 long reach Deore II Cantilevers MT-62 in Black Photo Soon. These are traditional wide profile cantilevers. They work extremely well with modern road brake levers, such as Shimano STI, BLR-600, and Campagnolo Ergo, which do not pull enough cable for low profile cantilevers or V brakes. These are nice looking brakes that are appropriate for high quality frames. Standard smooth stud brake pads. Black finish. Price is for one brake, including pads. For stopping power, they are about half way between the Paul Neo Retro and the Paul Touring. $ 45.00
