Services Shimano Ten Speed Bottom Bracket Rebuild Shimano's latest cranksets come with integrated bottom brackets called Hollowtech II. Some people find that the bearings don't last as well as other bottom brackets such as Phil Wood. I can replace the Shimano bearings in these new cranksets with Phil Wood bearings using special tooling from Phil Wood. The bearings cost $21. each and you need two. The bearings are not the same size that Phil Wood uses in their bottom brackets, but they are the same quality. The labor charge is $30. total for replacing both bearings making the grand total $72.00 Ship us your Shimano Dura Ace 7800 series, Ultegra 6600 series, or Shimano 105 5600 series Hollowtech II crank bottom bracket cups and I'll replace the Shimano bearings with top quality Phil Wood bearings. The return shipping charge will vary depending on where you are. Headset Installation If the headtube and fork crown seat are not milled correctly, the bearing races of your headset will not be perpendicular to the steering axis, and your headset will either have play, or will bind, or both. If you have a new frame or are overhauling your bike and want your headset to work as well as possible, bring me the frame and fork, and I'll machine the headtube and fork crown to precise tolerances and properly install your headset. Do not bring in your bicycle. I don't strip down bikes any more. Just bring in the frame and fork, with or without a headset installed. The price for this service is $45.00 or $50 if the old headset hasn't been removed. If you need to purchase a new headset, I have many high quality types to choose from. Bottom Bracket Installation If the threading in your frame's bottom bracket shell is not concentric to the axle, your bearings will bind or be loose, or both. And if the end faces of the shell aren't perpendicular to the axle, you will also have play or binding, if the cups press against the end faces. I can machine your BB shell to precise tolerances assuring that your bottom bracket will run smooth and last as long as possible. The price for this service is $25 for properly cutting the treads, and $15 for facing the ends of the shell. I can also install most bottom brackets. The price for installation varies with the type of bottom bracket, and whether or not you're purchasing it from me. Don't bring in a built up bicycle for this service. I only work on stripped frames these days. |
